St Malachy's Primary School, Glencull, celebrated the opening of their brand new sports hall on Sunday 17th September. The momentous occasion was marked by a special blessing from Fr O'Dwyer, Parish Priest, who was joined by the enthusiastic children of St Malachy's.

The school, which is celebrating its 190th anniversary this year, commemorate this milestone by hosting a funday for the entire community.

The event was a resounding success, with families and friends coming together to enjoy a day filled with fun activities and entertainment. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the official opening of the state-of-the-art sports facilities. Over the last three years St Malachy’s have completed the building of two new classrooms, offices and front facade, kitchen and dining facilities, storerooms, basketball courts, sports hall.

Fr O'Dwyer, known for his warm and engaging personality, led the blessing ceremony. He emphasised the importance of physical activity and teamwork in the development of young minds and bodies.

The children of St Malachy's were actively involved in the proceedings, assisting Fr O'Dwyer in the blessing and expressing their excitement for the new sports hall.

The newly constructed sports hall boasts modern amenities and ample space for various indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, and badminton as well as the arts with lighting, staging and an audio visual system. Ready just in time for the children of St Malachy’s to host their first Christmas show in their new hall in December. It also includes storage facilities, ensuring top class facilities for both students and staff.

The funday held in conjunction with the opening of the sports hall was a true celebration of St Malachy's rich history. The school, which has been an integral part of the community for almost two centuries, took this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to its success over the years.

Parents, alumni, and members of the local community attended the event, reminiscing about their own experiences at St Malachy's and sharing stories of how the school has positively impacted their lives.

The day was filled with laughter, joy, and a sense of unity as generations came together to celebrate the past, present, and future of St Malachy's Primary School, Glencull.
