Launch of CCMS research into primary school reorganisation and change projects

One of CCMS’s primary duties is to promote and coordinate area planning and, since its establishment in 1989, CCMS and Catholic Trustees have worked closely with other education bodies to deliver a range of school reorganisation projects.

Underpinning this work has been a commitment to positively impact educational provision by improving the long-term sustainability of schools in an area. This principle was subsequently embedded in the Department of Education’s ‘Sustainable Schools Policy’ (2009), which guides the current area planning processes.

To support and inform the approach to area planning in the future, CCMS and Trustees are reviewing their work to date. This research will analyse school change and reorganisation projects from 2005 to 2023, as well as reflect on area planning more generally.

CCMS has written to all primary schools to encourage engagement with the research:

  1. Online Survey

You can complete an online survey by clicking the link below:

Area Planning - Primary Questionnaire (closing 1 March 2024)

We are interested in feedback if you/your school were involved in a primary provision area planning discussion, process, or project. If you have not been directly involved, we would also welcome your feedback on area planning more generally.

  1. Focus groups

If you would like to participate in a future focus group as part of the research, please register your interest with:
