CCMS, the managing authority for Catholic Maintained schools in Northern Ireland, has appointed Mairead Harvey as Director of Education.
With over thirty years’ experience working in the education sector, Mairead has held the roles of Education Adviser and Senior Education Adviser at CCMS during the last nine years.
With a teaching career which began in Holy Cross Boys’ Primary School Ardoyne, Mairead went on to work as a literacy and school improvement officer in the former Belfast Education and Library Board, and as a lecturer in Education Studies at St Mary’s University College, Belfast.
Commenting on her appointment, Mairead Harvey said: “It is both my privilege and delight to have been appointed by The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools to this role.It is a role that I assume with energy, fervour, and a deep commitment to serving the needs of Catholic Maintained schools.
“I am acutely aware of the myriad challenges within the education system at this time, and consequently, the very real pressures felt by school leaders and governors. I am resolved to working with, and advocating for, our school leaders as we navigate these challenges, always with a firm focus on ensuring that the needs of children and young people shape all our decisions and are at the core of everything we do. “
